Want To Order Indian Food For Your Next Party? Here’s A Guide!

Tired of ordering the same old pizzas and sandwiches for your house parties? Instead of looking for a new caterer, how about trying Indian food this time? For starters, the whole idea of Indian food catering can be overwhelming, primarily because the range of options are way too many. For anyone who is new to these flavors, placing an order will be a tough task, which is why we have listed the things you can expect.

  • Tandoor is a clay oven where foods are cooked at a high temperature. The coal, smoke infuses incredible flavors into each dish. Tandoori chicken, paneer tikka, afghani chicken, and seekh kebabs are some of the common dishes, and these are usually served as starters.

  • Indian food is incomplete without rice, and biryani is the classic Mughlai fare, which consists of basmati rice, meat, ghee and fried onions. The recipe is cooked on a really slow flame, and the semi-cooked rice and meat are added in layers. When you hear the term dum biryani, it simply means that the recipe has been cooked under “dum” or pressure. Biryani is a complete dish in itself, but you will also find accompaniments like yoghurt and dips.
  • Many people associate Indian food with spices and flavors, and rightfully so. Curries are basically made with a certain mix of spices, called the masala. These curries go really well with Indian breads like chapati and naan, or even rice. If you don’t like too much of heat, ask the caterer to tone down their spice mix.

  • Saag refers to leafy greens, and you will find varied kinds of saag recipes. Spinach for instance is often used for making a flavorsome but mild curry of chicken, paneer or tofu. With aromas of selected prices, saag recipes are tasty and nutritious.
  • Indian beverages. Indians love sweet touch to their beverages, and if you had to order just one item, it would be the lassi. Lassi is made from yogurt mixed with sugar, and it goes really well with a heavy meal. You can also try something like an aam panna or even Indian tea.

If you are working with a caterer for the first time, don’t shy away from asking for details and get an estimate in advance. Naan, roti and other Indian breads are usually served in numbers, so ask for specific details.
